Not sure what type of lock you have?
Identifying your lock can help determine whether it needs repairing or replacing. Below are the most common types of locks found on residential and commercial doors.
Euro Cylinder Locks
Euro cylinder locks are commonly found on uPVC and composite doors. These locks are operated with a key from both sides and are part of a multi-point locking system.
They are one of the most common locks I work with and can often be replaced or upgraded easily if needed.
Mortice Locks
Mortice locks are fitted into wooden doors and are usually found on older properties. These locks are typically secured with a key and may meet British Standard requirements depending on the type.
Multi-Point Locking Systems
Multi-point locking systems are commonly used on uPVC doors. When the handle is lifted, multiple locking points engage along the door frame.
If your door is not locking properly, the issue is often with the mechanism rather than the cylinder itself.
When to Repair or Replace a Lock
In many cases, locks can be repaired rather than replaced. However, if a lock is worn, damaged, or no longer secure, replacement is usually the best option.
